The Transformational Teacher Training team in the Central Region carried out a successful sensitisation exercise in the Agona West District yesterday.

These Sensitisation Exercises have been designed to create awareness of the Transformational Teacher Training programme in the districts which are not benefiting directly from the programme but have received Newly Qualified Teachers (NQTs) from OLA College of education. These NQTs have gone through the Transformational Teacher Training programme.

Yesterday’s exercise brought together the Deputy Director of Education, the KG Coordinator, the Human Resource Manager, Circuit Supervisors and head teachers in the district.

Dora Frimpong is the only NQT among the three posted to the district who is implementing the Transformational Teacher Training programme. The other two NQTs posted to this district cannot implement the programme, as one currently has no classroom and the other was posted to Primary 1.

Dora was invited to share with the participants the impacts the programme has had on the children. The head teacher of the school where Dora teaches said, “You will marvel when you come to my school’’. The Central Regional KG Coordinator also described the impact of the programme and encouraged the officers to give their maximum support to the current and future teachers who will be posted to the district.

In the end, the head teachers of the NQTs not implementing the programme all pledged to provide classrooms so that, the implementation can commence in their schools. The Human Resource Manager also promised to place subsequent NQTs in kindergarten classrooms.

It was an overwhelming success and we hope to achieve the same result in the next sensitisation exercise.
