Reach Cambridge is a residential summer school programme for students from around the world. They offer a wide range of course’s including Journalism, Law, Life Sciences and Medicine, SAT preparation and also Community Outreach.

As Reach Cambridge’s charity partner we work closely with the Community Outreach students to help them develop awareness raising and fundraising events, which enable students to develop teamwork and leaderships skills and take part in a project that really makes a difference.

Over the last seven years of our partnership we have raised nearly £20,000 together.

Every year we are overwhelmed by the enthusiasm and commitment of the students and this year is no exception. The students have been really creative and organised raffles, an auction of promises, cake sales, face painting and sport tournaments, to raise funds to support Sabre’s Brighter Futures programme in Ghana – giving thousands of the youngest Ghanaians a better start to their education by Building Better Schools and providing Transformational Teacher Training.

An annual highlight of the Reach Cambridge Community Outreach programme takes place in July when Sabre’s UK team get to join in the fun in Cambridge with the Reach students and supervisors to hold a Sabre Day. It’s a really fun day hosted in the centre of Cambridge, which raises awareness and funds through street collections, raffles, cake sales and face painting. The brilliant One Drum, joined us again this year to deliver Drumming workshops and it always brings a little Ghana to Cambridge,  we raised a fantastic £465.

The August course saw our Head of Fundraising visit Cambridge to run two workshops with the students, challenging them to create a fundraising and/or an awareness raising campaign for Sabre, which they had to present at the end of the workshop. There were some really creative ideas, long term concepts and beautiful graphics to explain their proposals. The students held a Fete of Fundraising on the 7th August raising over £1,600. You can read more about that on the Reach Cambridge blog

The grand total raised this year was £2450.16 – Medaase papapa (Thank you very much) #ReachCambridge2015
