The KG2 children enjoy writing time each day during their phonics session and now the KG1 children practice ‘mark making’ at whatever level they may be at using any medium they like, whether it be writing in the sand, on a slate or with water on the walls. The KG1 children have loved this addition to their school day and we have seen evidence of some excellent emergent writing skills from them. This will help the children to accumulate the skills they need to begin writing words and full sentences once they get to KG2. The teachers are also doing an excellent job at facilitating this and not correcting the children but instead allowing them to write whatever they see as being correct. All in all, a great first step in getting children to enjoy writing!
