Katie Coles joined the UK based fundraising team on 9th November, here she tells us a little about her first couple of weeks.
“The blue skies of Ghana seem like a lifetime away now that I have been back in the cold and wet UK weather for nearly four weeks. Maybe I didn’t pick quite the right time of year to move back! One thing that does make it easier is that I have not left Sabre altogether. I am now in my second week at Sabre’s Lostwithiel office in my new role with the fundraising team. It’s great to see a completely different side of Sabre’s work and just how much goes into making sure the projects out in Ghana have all the funding they need.
So far I have been able to get involved with a variety of different tasks; including helping to prepare the winter newsletter for our supporters, researching potential future funders and sharing all of the exciting Sabre news on our various social media platforms. I am looking forward to meeting our youngest supporters, the Strand Spartans, at the end of next week to tell them more about our work in Ghana and the impact their fundraising has had.
It’s been an exciting few weeks but there are many things that I am missing in Ghana; of course all of the team out there and my favourite groundnut soup and rice balls for lunch (I may have to attempt making some soon!), however the UK does have its perks- constant electricity, running HOT water, cheese and the team here who I am really excited to be working with!”
