Every girl deserves the opportunity to dream, learn and lead. To mark this year’s International Day of the Girl Child, Sabre Education is celebrating the vital work of the Ghana Education Service’s Girls’ Education Unit (GEU) in advancing gender equity across the education system.
As part of the commemoration, we sat down with Director Gifty Asiedu to discuss the progress Ghana is making in placing girls at the centre of education policy and practice. In our video interview below, she highlights a significant national milestone: at the basic level, girls and boys have now achieved parity in enrolment. This achievement reflects years of sustained effort across schools, communities and government to ensure that girls are fully included in learning.
Director Asiedu also speaks about the next phase of the GEU’s work — strengthening gender-responsive teaching and encouraging girls to break free from limiting stereotypes. From exploring STEM subjects to envisioning themselves in leadership roles, girls across Ghana are being supported to see every pathway as open to them.
These efforts are already expanding opportunities for girls nationwide. With each step they take, Ghana moves closer to a future where every girl can realise her potential, contribute confidently and thrive.
