Ladies and gentleman welcome to Dominase – many years ago I had a dream, what we are here today to witness exceeds the hope of that dream many times over.
Our belief in education and educational opportunities for everyone runs through all of our activities. Without being able to learn how can we improve to make ourselves better?
Education holds the key. As the UN Secretary General (SG) has said: “People are the greatest wealth of any country, but that wealth must be built on quality education”.
In many ways, education is a ‘game changer’ that can close our biggest development gaps. Improved education carries benefits throughout life and across generations.
It has positive impacts on reducing infant and maternal mortality; it leads to better nutrition; supports HIV prevention; boosts poverty reduction and empowers women and youth.
But it does something even more important. Education opens the door to unlimited possibilities. It helps us to change mindsets, to dream and to bridge the gap between the reality we have and the future we choose to create.
We have high hopes for the children of Dominase, we hope you are able, through the wonderful new structure that is being unveiled today, to not only dream of a different future but to be able to realise that dream.
I am very proud to be part of such a wonderful programme that is investing so much in the future of Ghana. Thank you to everyone who has contributed to making this day a reality, our engineers, labourers and extended support team in the UK who regrettably could not be here today, community members, education officers and KEEA municipal staff, our funding partners, without their valuable support this project would not have happened. Thank you also to the teacher trainers and education consultants who are going to assist and guide the teachers of the school to provide a quality foundation for the children of tomorrow.
