Afrikids, an NGO in the Northern Region of Ghana, carried out a familiarisation visit earlier this year as part of their ‘Foundation for Life’ project, which replicates the Fast-track Transformational Teacher Training programme that Sabre has helped to develop in the Central and Western Regions.

Since this visit the Afrikids team and their partners have been busy putting into place the elements that are necessary for successful project implementation. An important activity has been selecting an enthusiastic and committed group of Tumu College of Education trainers, whose actions will be key to the ‘Foundation for Life’ project’s success.

We were thrilled to host and to get to know these eleven trainers when they came to Takoradi recently for an orientation visit.

The visit focused on introducing the trainers to key elements of the Fast-track Transformational Teacher Training programme, preparing them for the personal change process that all participants in the ‘Foundation for Life’ project will have to go through and hearing words of wisdom from trainers, head teachers and teachers who are currently participating in the Fast-track Transformational Teacher Training programme.

Joshua Baatimah, one of the lecturers in the Early Childhood Department of Tumu College, said: “The two days orientation training was an eye opener for us all and has really prepared us for the task ahead.”

The trainers also spent time observing the Fast-track Transformational Teacher Training programme and classrooms in action and they marvelled at what they saw. They left Takoradi determined to do all they can to provide better learning opportunities for the children who will be in the care of the teachers they will be training from September 2016.
