We are very proud to be part of a brand new project ‘Phonics By Phone’ that provides support to teachers in Ghana to use phonics to teach reading. Phonics are the sounds associated with individual letters and groups of letters that when we blend them together enable us to correctly pronounce words. As the name makes clear, this support will be available to teachers on their own mobile phones. Not just on the latest android smartphones, but on the standard feature phones that most teachers in Ghana already have in their pockets.

Phonics Ghana is a new alliance of organisations actively interested in helping improve reading outcomes for children in Ghana, on a not-for-profit basis.

  • Educators International

  • Jolly Phonics

  • Universal Learning Solutions

  • Every1Mobile

  • Sabre Charitable Trust

  • We are backed by a grant from the Vodafone Foundation.

The Ghana Education Service, at national and district levels, is well aware of the importance of phonics, and actively supports our work, which focuses above all on state KG and primary schools across Ghana. We work with many individual schools, colleges, teachers and parents. This is a truly universal programme, available to all teachers.

Phonics Ghana National co-ordinator Sheena Campbell, is working alongside our Brighter Futures team at our offices in Elmina.
