Last week the Fast-Track Transformational Teacher Training (FTTT) team in the Western Region was thrilled to have Sabre’s Managing Director, Dominic Bond, in country for a visit. This was an excellent opportunity for the team to show how the new schools that have joined the programme are getting on now that they have been implementing the programme for a full term.

First, Dominic had the opportunity to meet with the Shama District Director of Education, Mr Charles Ngumah, and other Ghana Education Service staff at the district office before visiting Amenano Model Kindergarten with them, the 1st Sabre built school in the Western Region and winner of the Best Kindergarten in Western Region in 2015. The children and teachers at Amenano, as usual, did not disappoint and are a perfect example of how the FTTT programme should be run.

Next, the team moved on to Sekondi-Takoradi Metro, the second District in which the FTTT programme is operating in the Western Region. Here Dominic was able to visit a further two kindergartens and meet the Western Region Director of Education, Mr David Afram.

There was positive feedback from all of the schools visited, a very encouraging sign that the programme is already having a beneficial effect in the Western Region. The Head Teacher of Sekondi Model Kindergarten shared that enrolment has increased in her kindergarten as a result of the programme and she is even having to turn potential pupils away as her classes are now full. Sekondi Model Kindergarten has also constructed an excellent shelter for the children to use for their outside activities, which was built using contributions from the Parent Teacher Association. It is very exciting to see that the parents are supporting the programme in such an excellent way.

The team was also able to see how news of the programme is spreading to other schools in the area. On a visit to the Salvation Army Basic School the Head Teacher explained how neighbouring schools, which were not part of the FTTT programme, were visiting to make resources and learn best practices.

This is all very encouraging news and testament to all of the hard work the FTTT team has done at the start of the new schools’ two-year journey on the programme.
