The second Mentoring Meeting of the year for the teachers, head teachers and Ghana Education Service officers on the Fast-Track Transformational Teacher Training (FTTT) programme took place on Tuesday this week. The purpose of these meetings is to help develop the mentoring role that all participants on the programme play, and most importantly the relationship between mentors (teachers) and mentees (student teachers).

During this one-day workshop the participants shared practical examples of instances where they had provided mentoring support in the classroom, which helped the teachers to see the areas in which they should be mentoring the student teachers. The participants also gave examples of the way they have developed respect and trust in their classrooms, an essential element of a successful mentoring relationship.

The Mentoring Meetings rely on a lot of sharing of ideas and experiences from the participants, which makes it a fun and active session. The teachers and head teachers particularly enjoyed role-playing some scenarios that reinforce a good mentoring relationship.

All participants left the meeting with a lot of good ideas and strategies to bring back to their classrooms and we are confident that everyone’s mentoring skills will continue to grow from strength to strength.
