Last week saw a two day Top-up Training for teachers on our Fast-track Transformational Teacher Training programme in the Western Region and also teachers at the two new schools we built last year in the Central Region, at Saltpond and Asebu.

The team of local trainers made sure the training was very lively. The training included group discussions and big circle discussion where participants could use their creativity to show how well they had understood the contents of the workshop.

Mathematics for kindergarten was a key area of this training. Teachers were very innovative in using activities and songs that will help to build a solid mathematical foundation for the kindergarten children. In addition, the teachers had the opportunity to prepare some Mathematics teaching and learning materials for their classrooms, such as number lines. Making and trying out these resources helped the teachers to understand how they can be used to facilitate mathematical learning in their classrooms.

Ghana Education Service Officers and Head Teachers also participated in the Top Up Training and helped their classroom teachers prepare Teaching and Learning Materials in preparation for the new themes “My School” and “Animals” for KG2 and KG1 respectively.
