The first Mentee Meeting for the new group of student teachers who have joined our Fast-track Transformational Teacher Training programme in the Western region was a great success. The meeting was held at the Ghana Education Service resource centre in Sekondi and 75 student teachers from Holy Child College of Education attended.

Student teachers become ‘mentees’ when on the training programme as they are placed in classrooms with practising teachers who become their mentors.

The meeting focused on how student teachers will understand their roles as mentees and the role of their mentors, it also covered the importance of maintaining a good mentoring relationship to support the successful implementation of the programme.

Student teachers were also taken through likely scenarios to share mentoring ideas and how to manage classroom situations. The afternoon session was an opportunity to learn how to prepare teaching and learning materials from the theme All about Me.  The teaching methodology uses active and play based learning structured around themes. The All about Me theme teaches the children about themselves, ranging from the names of different body parts to the different members of their family.

The student teachers showed great enthusiasm during the workshop and really enjoyed it.
