September marks the start of the next phase of Fast-track Transformational Teacher Training programme (FTTT) in the Western Region as we expand to more schools across the Western Region. The Fast-track Transformational Teacher Training programme aims to scale up quality kindergarten education by offering in-service training to teachers and pre-service training to student teachers in their final year of the Diploma in Early Childhood Education.

The FTTT is delivered in partnership with Holy Child College of Education and Ghana Education Service and provides two years of training to teachers in their classrooms, which we call Model Practice Classrooms as they’re modelling the best way to teach 4 & 5 year olds in the Ghanaian context. This network of Model Practice Classrooms will enable all early childhood student teachers from the college to access the enhanced practical placement scheme.

The first activity we carried out was a Training of Trainers workshop, which involves 7 days of training. In this next phase of the FTTT we are training a new team of trainers, comprising four Ghana Education Service Officers and four teachers. The teachers have already been through the first phase of the programme and have completed two years of intensive training and the Ghana Education Service Officers also have a good knowledge of the programme.

The Training of Trainers workshop focused on the concepts that will be covered in the first Intensive Training Workshop that this new training team will deliver to the next cohort of teachers, head teachers and Ghana Education Service Officers.

We were really impressed with the new trainers at the workshop, particularly their mock presentations. It was great to see so much commitment to the programme, watch this space for more updates!
