We are thrilled to announce that our volunteer Education Advisor Sonya, has been shortlisted for a Third Sector Excellence Award for ‘Volunteer of the Year’. The winners will be announced at an Award Ceremony in September so watch this space to find out more…

Sonya began volunteering for Sabre Trust as an education advisor 6 years ago. Over the last 12 months Sonya has spent 9 weeks in Ghana, and in the UK spends at least 3 days a week supporting the team remotely. Sonya’s time in Ghana is dedicated to training the team of local trainers and Sabre’s project team to deliver and manage the teacher training course. When Sonya is in the UK she works tirelessly writing the training course content and trainer scripts.

The most amazing thing about Sonya is that she does all of this at 81, proving that age is most definitely no barrier. Working and living conditions in Ghana are very basic, often there is no electricity or running water, even this will not stop her. Sonya is a crucial part of our team, we would not be where we are today without her.

Congratulations Sonya and good luck for the next stage …..
