The plastic formwork used for casting the columns for each classroom has arrived on site and the team were delighted to start using them.

Our Construction Projects Manager, Lawrence Mensah, assembled the formwork as a demonstration to the site team before the team began marking out and drilling them for the starter bars.

You can see from these photos that the column rebars and starter bars have been fixed in place and the plastic formwork added ready to start pouring the concrete for the classroom columns.

In the past our Sustainable Kindergarten Complex construction process has used wooden formwork made on site by our carpenters. This is a very time consuming process and the formwork can only be used once or twice before it begins to warp and deteriorate, and the timber cannot then be used for anything else. We decided that a move to plastic formwork would be more cost effective and less wasteful, as it saves significant time on site and can be used over and over again. The end result is a much smoother finish as well, which further enhances the look of the school structure.
