Last week saw the delivery of the fifth and final Intensive Training Workshop (ITW) for this cohort of Central Region’s kindergarten teachers on the Fast-track Transformational Teacher Training programme (FTTT). In preparation for the workshop the OLA training team had a Training of Trainers session and ran through the format and content of the ITW.

As usual, this ITW brought together all kindergarten teachers, head teachers and Ghana Education Service officers involved in our establishing model practice schools from both KEEA and Cape Coast districts to learn together. The three day workshop was packed with content, revising previously visited topics like talking about numbers and the ever popular story sharing, but also rounding off the training with important concepts like how to hold effective parent consultations and developing a Code of Practice for FTTT trained early years’ teachers and assistants.

This month, we welcomed Harriet Crentsil, KG2 teacher at Jacob Wilson Sey. School, to our team of trainers. Harriet overcame her nerves at presenting to her peers and delivered excellently as both a lead and support trainer throughout the workshop. Well done and welcome, Harriet!

We were also lucky enough to receive a visit from the Cape Coast Metropolis Director of Education on our final day of training. Mr. Stephen Richard Amoah, who recently transferred to Cape Coast, talked of the large impact he had seen Sabre trained NQTs have in his former district and how excited he was to now be working in the hub of it all! He congratulated the teachers on their hard work so far, while encouraging and commending the continued dedication of the teachers to the betterment of early years’ education.

Although this was the last ITW for this cohort, it is not the end of our journey with them. We will continue working together for the remainder of the school year with more In-Class Coaching and Top-Up Training, as well as our regular monitoring exercises. Watch this space to see how we’re all getting along!
