Our teacher training programme encourages lots of fun activities to help children learn through play. One activity that gives children an opportunity to use their creativity is candle painting. This involves using a wax candle to draw an ‘invisible’ picture. Paint is then applied over the top using a sponge which makes the picture appear, as the paint does not adhere to the wax.

Sustainability is key to our programme and our teachers in Ghana make their own paint using clay (which is easily dug up from the ground outside, crumbled up and mixed with a little water, making a reddish brown paint).

Here are some of our Central Region Trainers having a go at candle painting in preparation for explaining the technique to the classroom teachers at their upcoming workshop, they certainly are an artistic bunch!
