Our In-Service Teacher Training team has been busy delivering In-Class Coaching over the last three weeks.  A team of 18 coaches (comprising tutors from OLA College of Education, Ghana Education Service officers from Abura-Asebu-Kwamankese District, and classroom teachers with several years of experience implementing the Fast-track Transformational Teacher Training project) visited all of the kindergarten teachers who were trained in our recent Intensive Training Workshop.  The team covered 88 schools, and 168 classrooms in the Abura Asebu Kwamankesse district.

In-class coaching is an essential component of the teacher training because it provides hands on support to teachers in a number of areas, including;

  • classroom setup to encourage participation
  • managing and facilitating rotations
  • sharing stories with children in a fun and interesting way
  • effective use of the week by week theme guides together with teaching and learning materials to deliver sessions
  • how to complete session notes and assess children’s performance.

Feedback from the teachers and head teachers shows that the In-Class Coaching has provided more clarity on some of the issues that they didn’t quite grasp during the Intensive Training Workshop 1.

This is what some teachers had to say about the In-Class Coaching;

The coaches have made our day very pleasant, our classroom has been transformed and we are more confident to run our rotations and use the week by week guides Madam Sharina Kutah, Bosomin DA Kindergarten

Thank you very much for coming over to rescue us. I was struggling with the rotations, but now I understand exactly how I can run rotations even with me being the only teacher in the classroom. This has been very helpful. And thank you for showing us how to use the teaching and learning materials too  Madam Anita Elsie Amoah, Pataase Kindergarten
